Let me ask you…How much advice and inspiration do you gobble up in your news feed and email each day? How many blogs, books, and talks have you consumed wanting to change something about your life? How many quotes do you like, pin and share across Facebook while nodding your head?
What have you done with all that information to make a change?
I know what its like to do the reading, the talking, the dreaming and the wishing and to be excited by the thought of change.
I also know how easy it is to get stuck in the thinking, and the over thinking while you wait.
Great things will not happen if all you do is wait.
Wait to be noticed… to be seen and heard.
Wait for more time… the kids to get older, the work to slow down.
Wait to be remembered… to be invited and included.
Wait for more money… to be discovered and promoted.
Wait to be saved… to be given permission and shown the way.
Wait for things to somehow turn around and fix themselves.
Wait for the right time.
Because here’s the reality of waiting… When you pause the world keeps going.
Life goes on and things will keep happening whether you have direction or not. So while you wait for the things you want to happen, all sorts of other things are going to happen to you.
You exist within a swirling mass of people who all have needs, many of whom will take from you in order to get what they want. When your not taking the lead in your own life, what will happen is going to be based upon the needs and desires of others.
So if each day you get up and on repeat you go through the motions, your days will soon become weeks, and then months and even years.
Your kids will get what they need, your work will get its results. The schools, committees, clubs, friends, partner and family will soak up all the time energy and resources you allow.
Your life will be up for grabs while you’re waiting for that something more.
If you’re not taking the lead, deciding what you want to have happen and taking deliberate action toward it, then what happens in your life will be based upon the power and demands of others.
This is YOUR one great life, engage with it and take charge of your time, energy and attention. Direct it to what feels good and serves you.
It’s scary I know. You could make a bad decision, go the wrong way, lose money, lose friends.
Forget getting it right and strive for continued progress. If things don’t work, then learn, tweak and go again until you find what does.
But if you keep waiting and don’t make a decision then the life that is happening around you will eventually decide for you.
The talks, the books, the ideas are all there to get you thinking. They’ll point you in a direction and even give you some inspiration to get started.
The real change you seek will only come when you step forward into action.
Own your power to choose. Quit waiting. Life is happening now.
And its your life.
