I spent much of 2015 in search of ease.
Ease has eluded me most of my adult life.
I’ve known hard work that’s paid off as achievement and material success.
I’ve known fast paced living that has stripped me of options.
I’ve known commitment upon commitment that has tricked me into believing I no longer had choice.
I’ve known times of languishing lazily in the hope that ease would catch me if I slowed down.
I’ve gone all in, and gone all out and yet ease has not been a part of my life.
I have listened to advice, copied ideas, lived for the masses and lost myself in the process. Still no ease.
I have wanted ease, begged for ease, read books looking for the secret to ease and yet all I generated was unease, struggle, frustration and craziness.
So what is the secret to ease?
Ease is a feeling you want. A feeling you generate by designing a life that honours you, your values, your desires and where you are in the present.
Ease is not something you can hunt down, hold up and swallow like an elixir.
Ease is not giving in, holding back and surrendering to what is.
Ease is not the easiest way forward.
Ease is knowing what you value and aligning your actions with this.
Ease is following your natural rhythms, your bursts of energy and your restorative dips.
Ease is recognising your inherent strengths and designing more ways in which to use them.
Ease is understanding the ebb and the flow. The times when you are craving more learning and the times when you’re fullness asks you to teach and share.
Ease is moving with both action and reflection. Knowing when to question and absorb and when to act and apply.
Ease is an investment in the future, it’s intentional, deliberate and it’s not easy.
Easy is coping with everything as it arrives in your day… Ease is planning and prioritising your precious time.
Easy is running out for take away night after night.. Ease is writing a list and a well planned weekly shop.
Easy is a big glass of wine to relax… Ease is 10 minutes of meditation each day.
Easy is saying yes to keep the peace… Ease is having the honest conversations.
Easy is haphazard, lazy and reactive… Ease is intentional, productive and proactive.
Easy is hiding… Ease is being you.
Easy is control and force.. Ease is trust.
Easy is have to… Ease is meaningful.
Easy is quick… Ease requires patience.
What do you choose?

That’s why at the very least I want ease. Not easy.
