Whether it was selling our successful business after 23 years, backing myself to start a Life Coaching practice or changing the kid’s school, as a family we’ve been riding a rollercoaster of change.
I’m often asked what prompted all this and I’m about to share that with you.
This won’t be anything you’ve not heard before, and yet I beg you to stop right now and take notice. What I’m about to say is what changed the way I lead my life and could change the way you approach your day, your week and ultimately your life too.
Your time is limited and if you don’t decide NOW where you’re headed, you may never end up living the life you want.
Without clear life direction you’re allowing other people and their demands to drain away your time, energy and attention…. meanwhile you’re dreams and desires sit on the sidelines.
Every thought, every decision, every distraction requires some use of your attention.
Every action, every behaviour, every drama uses your energy.
And all of this requires a slice of your time, and your time is your life. No dress rehearsals here.
So with this thought in the forefront of your mind let’s take a moment to think about your day so far.
Did you know what YOU wanted to achieve today? Does it support your bigger vision?
Did you have a day planned that is realistic and achievable, with enough time to complete one task before moving on to another?
Are you doing what matters to you? OR Is your day filled with tasks and activities for others, as you hope to squeeze your needs in the gaps between?
Life has a way of leading you if you don’t take the lead.
Here’s a surefire way to find out if you’re in the lead or being led.
Record all your activities for a week. Take notes and write down the details. Investigating your life, like a reporter, and asking yourself…
What are you giving your attention to?
How are you using your precious time?
Where are you directing your energies?
What are you focusing on?
Get specific…. How much time goes to scrolling around on social media? What happens when you do have a moment spare? What distracts you easily? How much TV do you watch? What lights you up? What feels draining? Who or what interrupts you the most? How much exercise do you do? How many trips to the shop do you make? Do you take a lunch break? How many times do you put off doing what you want to do?
Then after one week assess your notes….
Do your notes reflect the life you want to lead?
Are you satisfied with how your spending your time, energy and attention?
Are your efforts supporting the direction you want to move in?
Yes!!! Then high fives and keep up the good work.
No!!! Then what can you change?
Don’t have a vision? Start there, and set some 6 monthly goals.
Decide now to take the lead and direct all that you are, toward all that you want.
Because…. Your LIFE is happening right now and you’re using precious time, energy and attention to live it.
So make it count toward what matters most to YOU.
