I didn’t think I had anything to write today. I was stuck in my worry cycle… The what will I say, will it be good enough, will anyone read it, will they like it kind of worries that jam me up.
This sort of thinking gets me nowhere and achieves zip. And you know what, I’m not going to be that gal.
So I made a cuppa, grabbed my laptop and started to write… And now the words are flowing.
This same thing happens when I’m telling myself I don’t want to go for a walk (even though my tense body and cranky mind will love it). So I’ll grab the dog and head out the door anyway. Thirty minutes later I’m skipping along with a beaming smile.
And my yoga buddies will tell you, I’ve shown up for class more than once announcing that I didn’t want to come and put my yoga pants on anyway.
When I’m stuck it’s not that I don’t want to do something, it’s that I’ve forgotten why I want to do it and what it’s all for. But once I get started, boy it feels good and I gather momentum and my purpose comes flooding back… I can feel it!
So what happens? What gets me started.
I think about how I’ll feel later if I do something (Yay), and how I’ll feel if I don’t. (Blah)
I get out of my over thinking head, ignore my worry brain, stop making excuses and I do anything to get me moving.
I remember my vision, my desires and my values and allow them to steer me back to the path that fills me right up.
I choose to take action that supports what’s important, my values of achievement, health, family, creativity and growth and I do what helps me to feel nimble, valuable, true and connected.
Checking in like this always gets me started and moves me forward.
Because I get stuck when I lose touch with ME, forget the big picture and listen to the ‘negative nancy’ talk in my mind that wants to play it safe and away from discomfort and unease.
So if you’re feeling stuck and holding back… Start anyway. However small, make a move.
Maybe you’re stuck and putting off….
Going back to the gym
Buying that ticket
Booking in for that course or workshop
Setting new goals
Writing that article
Taking that class
Painting that room
Working with a Life Coach
Applying for that job
Asking for more money
Calling that friend
Taking time off
Weeding the garden
Asking for help
Getting a puppy
Whatever it is you’re stuck on, remember why you want to do it and take action. You’ll gather momentum and the rest will take care of itself.
What’s the alternative? Languishing as you are.
