Despite all that I have learnt, all that I have experienced and all that I know to be true….. I still have days when I think I can wing it.
Days without a plan, when I bumble along, doing a bit of this and a bit of that hoping to get that important stuff done.
Don’t get me wrong, I do get things done. I get a whole lot of ‘who knows what’ done.
On those days, when my head hits the pillow, I am an exhausted mess with a head full of worry.
Without taking the time to plan and prioritise your day it all becomes very haphazard.
You are vulnerable to distraction and at the mercy of who or what yells loudest.
You bounce from urgency to crisis and are easily sidetracked by every ding and ping of your phone. You may even take time to dabble in a moment or two of painful procrastination.
The important stuff is tucked away in the back of your mind, drowned out and lost in the craziness of an unplanned day.
Lunch time comes and you sacrifice a nourishing meal break, hoping to reign things in and get back on track.
The urgent current drags you along, as you cross your fingers and toes hoping at some point it will all feel good.
The truth is these days never feel good.
They feel unproductive, frantic and a whole lot of blah.
I am not suggesting you schedule your day with busy-ness and back to back activities with no room to spare.
In fact the opposite.
I suggest you plan a day which prioritises what matters most to you.
A day with feel good moments scattered throughout.
With time to pause and be deliberate. Intentionally choosing actions that fill YOU up, nourish YOU, and support YOUR success.
A day that is focussed on how you want to feel and what you most want to achieve.
A day that is realistic and offers you a real sense of purpose.
Maybe you want to:
Eat breakfast
Meditate
Finish those reports during work hours
Take a walk after dinner
Be on time for your appointments
Make your bed
Read a book
Call your Mum or your Nan, or both
Cook and eat dinner with someone you love
The trick, the tool, the secret is to be crystal clear on what will add value to your day, what is important to YOU and what YOU most want to get done – before the day begins.
Choose one thing, choose three, choose several…..please, please decide, schedule and act.
Your time, your energy and attention are all assets, they are yours to give…….choose to spend them wisely.
This is your one great life and it is up to you to lead it fabulously.
