I first became a manager in my early twenties. I was an enthusiastic, hard working controller and I was rewarded many time for this.
When the going got tough I did what I knew best, I personally worked harder and harder. This eventually lead me to burn out.
I was so busy working head down bottom up in the business, I had little time to reflect on how effective I was as a leader. I was neglecting to utilise my greatest asset, the collective power of my team.
Fortunately for me, I was included in an intensive company wide leadership program. This included several coaching sessions.
