It starts off feeling easier,
To just go with the flow.
A safe and comfortable ease,
And less use of the word no.
You transform into a passenger,
You ignore what you need.
Even though this is your life,
You give up the lead.
You languish along,
Your hands off the wheel.
Your time up for grabs,
Is now anyone’s to steal.
Your navigation all gone,
You now stumble along
Not sure which way to go,
Or where to belong.
When you lose touch with yourself,
And decide not to lead,
You are at the mercy of LIFE,
A great warning to heed.
So easily pulled here
And dragged over there.
Your attention and energy,
Become spread thin everywhere.
LIFE gathers momentum,
Quickens its pace.
Your identity is blurred,
Your desires all but erased.
When LIFE has her foot down,
We can travel real fast.
Moments become foggy,
As they quickly zip past.
One day into the next,
LIFE Leading the way.
Using up all our energy,
With no time left to play.
It happens so easily,
We stop making new plans.
Quit seeking new directions,
And begin to live in a trance.
When I feel that feeling,
You may know the one.
I feel out of control
My time no longer my own.
It is a sign then to me,
To pause and observe.
To set MY own clear intention,
It is what I deserve.
I say to myself,
This is my Life to Lead.
Get back in the drivers seat,
Grab onto that wheel.
Who is holding the wheel in your life?

Lovely words for me today as I almost cancelled a bucket list event next week letting the clutter of life get in the way of the joy. I booked a flight at dawn, saying yes to JOY and being in the moment versus releasing my hand on the wheel. Lovely photo / quote as well.
Debbie so thrilled to hear you cleared the clutter and made way for the joy. Keep those hands on the wheel and enjoy every moment.
I love this!!! It’s so easy to coast and merely be a bystander in life. Leadership takes courage and discipline.
We have to wake up every morning with a burning desire to live an extraordinary life.
Early morning meditation, affirmations, gratitude journaling, excercise and inspirational reading, keep me on track to live every day with intention.
Lee what a wonderful way to begin your days. I agree these rituals keep us on track and in flow with our intention. Delighted to have you stop by.
Once again, Karen, you have hit the nail on the head! I HAVE been playing the role of passenger way too often. It’s time to get reacquainted with my navigation skills!
Grab that wheel Mo and lead the way.
Love this poem, very inspirational. Pinning!
Jennifer thanks enormously.
I am a ‘pinner’ too.
This summer has been really interesting for me. My daughter has taken the wheel and as a result I’ve done many things I wouldn’t have done. Hiked 22 k, run 10k, biked 25 k etc. The very best? Cleaned out the beyond messy storage room. Off to drop some stuff off at the goodwill.
Great work Karen. As always.
Kelly what a productive Summer. Time to put those feet up I think……you have earned it.
