It isn’t Glamorous but I get a Mini High every time

August 13, 2013 By Karen Main 8 Comments

It was cold and wet, the rain had been constant all day.

Night was creeping in, it would soon be dark.

No more delaying, time to skedaddle.

I struggled to the door.

Fumbling, one hand clutching my precious cargo as I slipped my feet into some shoes.

Nothing glamorous happening here.

I collected this batch for 2 days, delaying my venture due to the wet, wintry weather.

It was time!

I trudged across the lawn, the damp night air surrounding me, determination outweighing my discomfort.

As I approached my target I felt that surge of goodness sweeping over me.  I took a moment to feel the quick zing, the charge of warmth and the validation I was acting in synch with my values

I carefully lifted the lid and dumped my package inside the bin.

The compost bin,  I warned you there was no glamour in this story.

I had collected my compostable food scraps to be churned in our special tumbling compost bin.  It is located across the garden and on those dreary Winter days it often seems easier to throw everything in the rubbish bin.  Why do I bother?

Don’t panic or get excited, this post is not about to become a gardening segment or a how to compost.  I am about to discuss the seemingly small and yet rewarding ways to incorporate more of you and your values into each day.  Those moments, and tasks that have the power to charge you, strengthen you and propel you forward with a deep sense of purpose and self.

I truly, appreciate Mother Nature and all the glorious beauty she brings to my life.  Gradually I have increased my awareness of the impact I have on our beautiful planet.  The upshot is a yearning to improve my way of life and incorporate methods of minimising my contribution to landfill.

It is a win win.

When I make the simple effort to separate my rubbish, to collect my food scraps and deliver them to my composting bin I feel fabulous.

Knowing I have accomplished a small and yet wonderful thing.  I savour the feeling, I enjoy the win.  It feeds my soul in some way and of course I in turn nourish my garden with juicy goodness.

I was tempted to head out and take photos of my compost, the worms doing their bit and the stunning decomposing food scraps all tumbled in together. Instead I chose to share the beauty in my garden.  The plants who feed on the yummy, decadent goodness resulting from my composting.

So here it is my simple recipe to injecting a dose of ordinarily fabulous into any day.

Discover and Identify the values you hold close – name them if you like

Take action to regularly support these values – build routines and strategies into your everyday

High five yourself as you synchronise your life – celebrate the fabulous feelings

What steps will you take to align with your values, moments to give you that sense of pride, your very own unique dose of fabulous.

{Melinda} Living out my faith in tangible ways … that energizes me. Encouraging someone, being patient with my kids when I want to rant, etc.

Great post to remind us that living in line with our values is invigorating and inspiring!
