At this crazy busy time
It is tempting to wish it done
To rush and tick the boxes
Wanting to mark off each and every one
To have all the gifts purchased
And wrapped beneath the tree
The photo quickly snapped
Of kids on Santa’s knee
The menu on the fridge
The food list written out
The baking, prepping cooking
The Christmas outfits hanging out
To write that one last Christmas card
To attend that one last do
To hold a candle as you sing
Happy there is little more to do
There was a time when I strived for this
Rushing to get it done
To hand out gifts, cook the meals
And quickly see everyone
Ready to pull the decos down
To wipe the last dish clean
To pack away the fancy plates
Knowing everyone has been
I was wishing away my Christmas
Precious moments that matter post
Focussing on the finish line
And being a ‘perfect’ host
Trying to get it right
Showing up at every event
Meeting obligations
Despite what it all meant
I wanted it to be over
To sit with my feet up
I was exhausted and overwhelmed
I had already had enough
So instead of racing through
To get your Christmas ‘done’
Slow it down, savour the joy
And delight in all the fun
Indulge in the festivities
Frolic in the mess
Bake your happy heart out
Let go and do a bit less
For this is your one great life
Christmas time, YES too
Live it to its fullest
Brimming with love for you

Love this poem Karen. How very true. You have inspired me to savour precious moments today. Thanks.
Definitely a good idea to take time to savor the moment. Some moments pass too quickly – and don’t repeat – so I don’t want to miss those!
