I believe we’re all dreamers. That we’re all continually imagining something wonderful we’d like to do, have or experience in our future.
Often our dreams arrive subtly. Moments in our day we linger over. Times when we pause to imagine ourselves in an experience.
Think of the thoughts you’ve had while thumbing through travel brochures, or the visions you get while scrolling your favourite Instagram accounts.
Dreaming, we’re all dreaming.
Whether it’s a new career, new friends, collaborations, lifestyles, hairstyles or holidays, we love to dream.
We also deny our dreams. We ignore them, forget them, crush them and even laugh them away.
Who am I to want that? I can’t have what they have. I don’t know enough or have enough to want what I want.
I used to say it too. Still do at times.
Let’s stop denying our desires and give our dreams their wings. Honouring them and releasing them into the world to see what comes back.
What’s grabbing your attention right now? Where are you pausing for a longer look, or tilting your head to hear more?
Is it the clickity clack of corporate heels that sets off a longing within?
Or the distinct smell of sunscreen that’s conjuring up a vision for adventure?
Are you fascinated by the ‘hippy’ Mumma down the road who restores furniture and grows her own vegetables?
Who do you admire right now? Who are you paying attention to and what is it about their story, their success that you’d like more of in your life?
Our desires, yearnings, secret wishings are all hinting at what we want more of, and less of. All coming toward us, creating new dreams.
I pay attention to my dreams as often as I can.
I write them down. I sit with them, savour them, nourish them.
I attach curiosity to them.
I know my dreams are the beginnings of a future vision, and my greatest plans will be born from them.
So how do we turn these thoughts, ideas and longings into action and reality.
We play with them, tease them out, churn them over in conversations and we cast them into the world to see what doors they open.
I speak of my crazier thoughts, emotional longings and deep wishes with my trusted friends, family… and even strangers.
I was only telling a friend on Monday that I’m longing for a new adventure and hours later I was asked if I’d like to take a girls road trip in July. Goosebumps riddled my body as I stammered out a wholehearted YES!
I declare my longings not to gain permission or advice. I’m simply letting the world know what I’m seeking, so opportunity knows I’m ready and where to find me.
You may be seeking new friendships, collaborations, connections, love, hobbies, pets. Or maybe its a new direction for your career, lifestyle or work.
Whatever it is, let the world know what you want and embrace the opportunities that no doubt will pass your way.
