Why resistance is reason to rejoice.

April 15, 2014 By Karen Main 8 Comments

Things do not feel as wonderful as they could?  You are not happy with your career, your fitness, your home, your relationship, your lifestyle,  your weight; your social life……..

You begin to dream, you think about how things could be, you formulate a plan.

Finally, you make the decision, you put yourself out there, you commit.  You join the gym, buy the book, subscribe to the blog, sign up for the program, join the walking group, enrol in the course, buy the supplies and the equipment.

The wheels are in motion.  Your lovely butt is on the line.  You are on your way.

You attend class, you show up at your group, you begin to make daily lifestyle changes.  You do the work.

You feel, excited, thrilled and amazed.   You cannot believe you waited this long.

You start to transform.  Your thoughts, your feelings, your body, your mind are beginning to undergo changes that extend far beyond the way you have been living for months, even years.

You are getting real and it is terrifying.

You feel exposed and vulnerable the further you move away from comfort.  You teeter at the edge of each powerful new decision.

Excuses follow, I am sore, I am too busy, I am no good at this,  no one likes me there, this is how life is for me.

The mediocre choices slip in.  I will skip today, I am not going to finish,  I won’t go this week, I will hand my work in late, no one will miss me.

resistance

You have met with resistance and it wants to tuck you up, nice and snug, back in your comfort zone.  Back where things  feel okay and they stay the same.

In a place where dreams are not reached, passions are not followed and life is not lived to the full.

Do not succumb to the comfortable allure of resistance, rejoice and embrace it instead.

Resistance is a sign you have forged beyond the safe boundaries of your comfort zone, the comfort you no longer desire.  The comfort that keeps you in an unhealthy, alone, unhappy, unfulfilled holding pattern.

The change you desire, the delicious dream that wants to take flight,  lies on the other side of the resistance.  Time to ignite the booster rockets and break through to Dreamville.

You will conquer resistance with consistent courageous decisions and actions over an extended period of time.

Build your mental strength…..read motivational quotes, practice affirmations, create visuals and meditate.
Nourish your self both inside and out…..eat wholesome nutritious food, sleep well and take long walks.
Accept support……speak to a coach or mentor, confide in a friend or family member, ask for help.
Get clear on why you want this…..Write down your dream, reread as required and immerse yourself with thoughts of how great life will feel when you achieve this dream.

Now believe you deserve this and take that next powerful step.

What courageous action needs to happen for you to move beyond the resistance, and for your dreams to start becoming reality?

I love this perspective on resistance. A stepping stone to breaking out of our comfort zone and moving forward. Sometimes that step seems like a giant leap, but it puts us in a new place. Besides, life begins outside of our comfort zones. And life is short. So, let’s push through the resistance and LIVE!

Nicole, life does begin outside our comfort zone, getting out there can feel very uncomfortable, as you know it is so worth it.

I so loved reading this post. “Resistance is a sign you have forged beyond the safe boundaries of your comfort zone”. Needed to read that. We so like to stay within our comfort zone & yet I am finding myself outside of it more & more lately. But that is the very place where growth occurs. I am glad I visited from the SITS this morning. Have a Happy Easter!

Love the insight you gave on resistance being a sign that you have forged beyond the safe boundaries of your comfort zone. This I think can be applied on many levels in our lives..it’s that time that we step back and look within ourselves. Great post. SITS sharefest! Have a blessed Easter/Resurrection Day!
