Effective goal setting isn’t always an easy thing to do…. And setting life goals can seem even more daunting and challenging.
The last five years have been truly incredible for me. I’ve experienced joys, and achieved more than I ever imagined, thanks to the goals I set for my life.
I also believe there’s even better to come, which is why each January I continue to invest time preparing for my goal setting process.
That’s right, I prepare well before I begin crafting goals.
Preparation is the key to unlocking ease in the goal setting process.
I’ve developed a layered approach that comes naturally to me now.
I begin by exploring a theme for the year , I review my life vision and I Desire Map to uncover the core desired feelings that’ll soulfully guide my goal setting process.
Next I ask a series of questions (included down below) to help me explore what it is I truly want.
Is all this necessary? Of course not! This is a process that I play with. It’s evolved over time and works for me. I offer it to you as a suggestion, please use what works for you too.
One thing is the same for everyone…. without a clear life direction the demands, dramas and busyness of life will drain away your time, energy and enthusiasm…. leaving you with nothing to invest in your own dreams and desires.
So with this thought in the forefront of your mind let’s take a moment to think about your year ahead, YOUR 2018.
Do you know what YOU want to achieve this year? Does it support your bigger vision?
Will you have goals this year that are challenging, realistic and achievable?
Do you want to prioritise what matters to you this year and stop squeezing your life in the gaps between?
Trust me, life has a way of leading you if you don’t take the lead….
January is a great time to prepare and set goals for your year ahead. So grab a cuppa, some pen and paper and have a play with the following questions and notice how easily your goals become clearer.
Don’t get caught in the HOW here, (it will block you) simply write down what you want like wishes to a genie.
- What top 5 things do you want to achieve i n the year ahead? (Big or small list 5)
- List 5 challenges you expect in the year ahead?
- What do you need to learn in order to grow?
- What relationships would you like to nurture?
- What would you like to make or create this year?
- How will you make a difference in the world this year?
- How will you play and have fun this year?
Now take a look at your answers….
What excites you? What scares you?
What feels good to want?
Do you notice any themes?
Stay in this part of the process as long as you like.
Now consider what you could commit to this year.
Da-Dahhh!!!! You’re now ready to set some goals.
