Its is estimated that we each take on average 20-50 photos per week, with this number increasing rapidly.
Less than 20% of these photos are then shared on social media.
Even less are printed.
This means hundreds, even thousands photos are saved and unused each year.
We are storing them everywhere, discs, hard drives, the cloud, USB sticks.
How can we access, share and prepare our vast photo libraries for years of enjoyment?
How can we dive into the wealth of memories and emotion contained in our photos?
It starts with organisation.
I am going to give you 3 quick tips for organising your holiday photos using my recent holiday as an example.
Last week I visited a truly picturesque part of Australia, Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Whitsunday islands. I was holidaying with friends. I took 387 photos in those 4 days using both my camera and iPhone.
Step 1. When I got home I loaded all the photos from the camera and iPhone to the computer.
Step 2 I Created a Folder/Event with a name referencing the place of my travels and the date. I then moved all of the photos in here. I called the folder Airlie Beach 2013
Step 3 I went through and cleaned up the album. Deleted any unusable photos, unflattering poses and any double ups. I corrected any red eye and cropped and enhanced where needed.
I now have a large collection of photos saved and easy to find. A story waiting to be told, a picture ready to be painted.
In steps the artist!
I choose a canvas – a theme for the slideshow.
The photos are my paints, too many and I have a brown muddy mess, not enough and there is no story, no vibrancy.
This collection of 387 photos eventually became a 3 minute 105 photo slideshow.
Please enjoy.

Great advice Karen! One thing that I do also that makes them even easier to find (and sort chronologically on a hard drive) is to label the folders with the date first YYYYMMDD – this way they will always be in order. HTH!
Tressie great advice thank you, never thought to start with the year.
You are truly fabulous! You brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my heart. The gift of your company in Airlie Beach meant the world to me. Now , you’ve captured that gift to relive over and over. We thank you! Xxx
