I was wandering the shops for the third time that week, on a mission for those ‘just right’ gifts.
I’m not complaining, in fact I enjoy Christmas shopping.
I dedicate December to scouring the globe for that unexpected and useful delight, the one of a kind experience and that item to be adored.
On this day things were going well, I had bags filled with quirky gadgets, divine candles and an impressive array of the latest toys.
Yet despite my best efforts I did not have the gifts I truly wanted to give.
The truth is what we buy is really just a token, a simple gesture, compared to what it is we truly want to give.
The greatest, deepest gifts are not on our lists and cannot be bought.
They are the dreams that don’t exist in the shops, the desires that cannot be found by Google.
They are the whispers in our hearts and our souls.
The secret wishes we have for others.
Like the wish that my Mum could walk without pain
The wish that my sister’s children were playing with mine.
The wish that my nicotine addicted Dad had never started smoking.
The wish that my friend will discover her dream job soon.
The wish that my husband could escape the Winter blues for ever.
The wish that my frazzled neighbour’s baby will settle and she can get a full nights sleep.
The wish that my clients could see how truly amazing they are and be free of self-doubt.
The wish that children never get hurt or fall ill.
The wish that all those health scans come back clear and the tests reveal good health.
The wish that the busyness for many makes way for ease filled days.
The wish that the choices you make support your dreams.
The wish that moments you live are savoured while you’re in them.
The wish that you make the time to experience new things and explore possibilities.
The wish that you believe you deserve all those desires.
The wish that this year you design and lead a life you truly love.
Have a fabulous Christmas everyone and please take a moment to share your greatest wishes with all those you love.
Write it in a card, send them a message or gently whisper it in their ear as you embrace.
I promise your soulful wish will be the greatest gift of all.
