For the longest time I thought art and creativity had to involve paint, pencils, clay, canvases, paper etc. Maybe this was a throwback to my school art days, when the art room was all about smocks and mess.
I believe we all have a creative side and it does not like to be trapped, unused and stifled. Creativity develops wings and we are all born to fly using them. Several years ago I was frustrated and began exploring different outlets for my creative urges. I dabbled in paint, mixed media art, colourful journalling and sketching.
Then I discovered photos, slideshows and video. A new art form that spoke to my soul.
At this time I also began to follow a few blogs that were written by a variety of artists and creators.
My world opened up and a spark ignited within me. One blog led me to another and another. I subscribed and liked Facebook pages, I devoured all the information at hand. Incredibly, all these people were artists gifting their passion to the world and I spoke their language too.
Looking back now I realise it was during this time I completely uncovered my creative spirit and prepared to give her wings.
You see an artist has many mediums and I am an artist.
In todays post I would like to highlight some of the people who have inspired me so far and who continue to do so everyday.
Take a peek.
My first major inspiration was SARK . I purchased her book Succulent Wild Woman 6 years ago, well before my blog reading began. Sark awakened a whole new adventurous and fun side to me. I continue to feast on her Facebook posts for regular inspiration.
I also discovered the amazing Kelly Rae Roberts through purchasing her book, Taking Flight. This is part of the introduction
“I am just like you. A girl who is always learning. A woman whose soul is vibrant with inspiration. A creative spirit that is expressive and sensitive. We are all connected, intertwining in this creative life. It’s because of this that I believe in the power of telling our stories – the stories of how we muster up our courage and leap and dance and breathe our way into our creative dreams. This is how we learn from one another. How we begin to finally see the potential and possibilities that live inside our hearts. Kelly Rae Roberts
Wow, she was speaking to me then and now. I adore her art and the messages woven within her work. I continue to avidly follow her Blog, Facebook page and Twitter. Yes,I pin her work all over my pinterest boards too.
Last year I came across an artist using a medium I have grown to adore, story telling using photos and video. Vivienne Mcmaster has shown me how to add soulfulness to my videos and slideshows, how to capture the essence of a photo and how to weave a narrative together. I love love her website, blog and plan to take more of her courses in the future.
I first found Liv Lane when I was looking for unusual cards to give to people and I bought some amazing necklaces from her collection. Most recently I have been completing her ecourse on How to Build a Blog You Truly Love. What an enormous impact she is having on my life.
There are so many more blogs and artists I follow and I will continue to share details of them along the way.
For now I will continue to fly with my newly opened sparkly wings and enjoy every delicious moment.
