I was happy in the moment,
Unstructured, relaxed.
I glanced at the time,
Then in rode The Battleaxe.
“Get dressed and get moving”,
“Places to be.”
“Look at the clock Missy”,
“No time for that tea.”
You are familiar to me,
Been around for a while.
You keep me on top,
Of the endless washing pile.
Through thick and through thin,
You have shown me the way
Your organisational force,
Steadying me as I sway.
You help me gain focus,
In the depths of despair.
To climb my way out,
When upside down like a pear.
I rely on you now,
Maybe a little too much.
I give you the reigns,
And then you run amuck.
Your rules and restraints,
Are stifling me now.
It has all got too much,
But stopping you, how?
Control my dear friend,
We have been exclusive too long.
I want to loosen up more,
Invite Carefree along.
It is freedom I seek,
To skip and to dance.
While the moon shines brightly,
Lost in a deep trance.
Pyjamas all day,
Lunch at 3 O’clock.
Dinner is toast,
Art with no smock.
I need to untangle,
Please let go of the strings.
I am ready to soar,
Seeking space for my wings.
No need for dramatics
Of course you can stay.
There is room for you too,
Just not every minute, in every day.
I will never truly leave you,
Behind in the heap.
You are part of my soul,
Without you I feel weak.
Harmony is ahead,
Softness and Strength.
I release your tight hold,
And take an expansive big breath.
You have been my pillar,
The strength that I need.
This is not goodbye,
Oh no, not indeed.
Love it! I live with a lot of control too…I’m looking forward to some less structured summer days. Almost here! Beautiful poem…you’re so talented Karen!
Michelle less structured Summer days are so so wonderful. Let the control go…….
Love your words! I felt ‘controlled’ my many people for the longest time. Not so anymore!
Debbie sounds wonderful and thanks for loving my words.
Karen, Did you feel me smiling WITH you through your whole poem? You are not alone. I love that you are totally abandoning that part of you that serves you, some of the time. Blessings!
Janet i do feel that smile now as I smile back at your wonderful comment. Thank you.
OOPS . . . I meant I love that you are NOT totally abandoning that part of you that serves you, some of the time.
Control….oh that evil word. I used to feel I needed to control everything in my life because my life was so out of control. But now, I’m in control….LOL going with the flow has allowed me to feel calm forcing the word “control” out. 🙂
Kelli, yes replace control with flow. Yes I do want to flow more.
Lovely poem Karen! Love how insightful you are- knowing that control is needed at times but also it is important to be able to learn to let go of that control as well. I love your words “I need to untangle”- so true. Thank you- I am now going to untangle for a bit! 🙂
Amy enjoy untangling, it feels uncomfortable at first and then you settle into it.
Lovely string of words… The stanza that resinates the most:
I need to untangle,
Please let go of the strings.
I am ready to soar,
Seeking space for my wings.
The fine balance of control versus leaping fearlessly! Brilliant… just brilliant
Debbie, thank you for this wonderful comment. I felt myself struggling to get my arms free as I wrote about the need to untangle, I often feel so bound up by my own control. It delights me to know you enjoyed my words too.
