I struggled in the door my hands full of shopping and headed straight for the kitchen, both kids trailing along behind me.
As I filled cupboards they unpacked school bags.
Chatter filled the air as they thrust school notices at me and explained uneaten fruit now rolling across the bench.
My thoughts were racing…..What will I make for dinner? When are those fees due? Did I remember to get milk? What time is swimming?
Then in walked hubby, the energy peaking as he stops for a moment of tickle monster and then begins filling me in on his day.
The kids race past, squealing with delight as I trip over a forgotten school bag.
I feel the heat of frustration building, preoccupied by the pressure to sort out dinner and annoyed as I look around at the chaos.
Then, like a beacon shining though the fog, I see my list of Core Desired Feelings pinned to the noticeboard.
A reminder of my desire to feel Nimble, Connected, True, Valuable.
I paused, I inhaled and I whispered……”So how do you want to feel, right now, while standing in your kitchen?”
My perspective shifted, the chaos melted and I saw my family in their joy and an opportunity for me to connect with them in this moment.
I turned to my husband and I listened carefully to understand his day.
I grabbed the kids and held them until they pulled away.
I asked for help to tidy up so I could begin to prepare our meal and swooned when my daughter asked if she could help me cook.
I felt inspired to create a nourishing meal for us all, something light and healthy that would fill us with energy.
And as we sat down to enjoy our meal together I was feeling Connected.
Providing a wholesome meal for myself and those I love felt Valuable and asking for help when I needed it felt True.
It began with a change to how I felt in my kitchen and has now evolved in to how I choose to lead my everyday life.
My Core Desire Feelings help me decide what to choose, when to act, who invite in, what to let go of.
They remind me of how I want to feel and what matters most as they guide me through the haze of overwhelm and crazy-busy.
If you are feeling overwhelmed and lost in the busyness of your days take a moment to ask yourself these 2 questions.
How do I want to feel?
What can I do to feel this way.
This is your one great life and it is up to you to lead it fabulously.
