The flights are booked, accommodation too, you have annual leave approved and now you wait.
Wait for the day you skip out of work, grab the kids from school, drop off the dog and fill the car with suitcases.
Then you’ll be happy.
What? Then? Why wait?
I have often wondered if the anticipation of an event is as enjoyable, maybe even more so, than the event itself.
Think about your wedding day. The gigantic bubble of love you existed in for months as you planned and dreamed of that one day. The day that went so fast, a lot of it is a blur.
What about your last holiday? The brochures you flicked through, the itinerary you planned and the countless happy conversations you had telling people the ins and outs of your trip.
Who could forget that last grown ups weekend away. The fun-filled planning nights, choosing treatments from the day spa menu and deciding how many bottles of wine to bring.
The anticipation holds bountiful joy, why not soak it all up and extend out your fun.
Of course the anticipation does not exist without an experience. A yearned for event you have planned booked and committed to.
The moment you agree the fun can begin.
Book in to that new fancy restaurant and then slowly peruse the menu online for days before.
Plan for an entire weekend relaxing at home and choose a line up of movies to hire and books to read.
And that next holiday, go all out with a countdown on the calendar and begin to research the culture, the cuisine and the places of interest well before you go.
The secret is in the savouring.
Slowly and deliberately digesting information relating to your experience and enjoying every moment as you do.
You’re living your glorious life today, enjoy the journey toward and don’t wait until you arrive to be happy.
What are you looking forward to?

We are taking a trip to Disney World in January with 4 generations of our family. We are indeed taking great joy in planning and marking the countdown until our magical trip! I need to take your advice and translate this into everyday events, as well!
Mo what a wonderful family adventure. Enjoy every moment in the lead up.
