25 simple challenges to add a zing to everyday life.

November 19, 2013 By Karen Main 17 Comments

Over the past few days I have been overwhelmed by the many stories of personal achievement I have heard.

People reliving past successes and enjoying immense feelings of achievement as they bubble back to the surface.  Distinct memories brought on by my own big challenge and the story of my success.

These words from Nerissa of sum it up beautifully.

Congratulations! I know EXACTLY the kinds of feelings you have, as I have walked OXFAM twice. Your legs are heavy, but your heart is light. Your body is tired, but your spirit is invigorated. You are probably a little disappointed it’s all over, but also relieved that you have made it.

Awesome achievement. But even more important is the mental growth you experience by doing something like this. It really does carry you on to do bigger and better things. It also helps you have a healthy appreciation of your body – what it CAN do, rather than what IT IS NOT.

Enjoy a well-deserved rest, along with the smile on your face.
xx

You can read more of Nerissa’s wisdom over at  Words by Nerissa.

As I continue to bask in my own feelings of accomplishment I also want to share this feeling with others, with you.

I want you to feel that irrepressible hit of confidence, that exquisite boost that comes when you challenge yourself and you succeed.

I want your wings to spread as your self belief soars to new heights.

I want your reservoir of pizzazz to enlarge, providing life building strength to draw from in times of doubt.

The question is do you want this too?

Challenges come in all shapes and sizes, they are both physical and mental and a combination of the two.

What challenges you is unique to you.

What challenges you today will evolve over time as you accumulate more life experiences, desires and skill sets.

Here are 25 simple ways you can add a challenge to your everyday life.

  1. Bake the family Christmas cake this year
  2. Grow a plant from seed
  3. Complete a 5km Fun Run
  4. Paint that picture you always imagine
  5. Knit a scarf
  6. Host your first ever New Years Eve party
  7. Master that elusive yoga pose
  8. Begin to meditate
  9. Ride a bike
  10. Write a short story
  11. Complete a Photoaday monthly challenge
  12. Write a love letter and post it
  13. Get up one hour earlier and walk 3 mornings this week
  14. Strike up a conversation with a stranger
  15. Write and incredible entry for a 25 words or less competition
  16. Pitch your amazing idea to the boss
  17. Say no to take away food for a fortnight
  18. Attend an art class
  19. Try rollerblading
  20. Go to Boot Camp
  21. Switch your phone off for a day
  22. Quote yourself on Facebook
  23. Take swimming lessons
  24. Invite some friends over to start a Book Club
  25. Write a love note to yourself everyday for a month.

Be conscious with your challenges, write them down, stick them on the fridge, tell a friend.  Acknowledge your progress and of course celebrate your wins.

What will challenge you?

Is it that naggy little thought that popped in your head as you read this?  It may be.

Whatever it is go for it, do one small thing today to make it even better than yesterday.

Great list! I will definitely be attempting to cook for the first time for my family this Thanksgiving (thankfully, not the entire dinner but I will be bringing 2 dishes) – so I hope to wow them that day! My bf praises my cooking everyday so I’m pretty certain everything will turn out absolutely delicious – I am a pretty good cook so I will give myself props. Have a great weekend Karen! -Iva
